In the community of 3D modelling, are Shop Drawings still being used? Absolutely! There isn't any a different way to transfer information at the design/detail end of the process to the floor of the shop. Some Fabrication Shops are using robots with more capabilities, however, they are very few and far between. There are machines available which can create, drill and prepare virtually anything but they are not very effective in assembling. If this pattern continues, there will also be a need for a drawing detailer or designer. Shop Drawing and detailing has changed a lot in the last 20 years. It used to be an art form that used drawing tables, electric sharpeners for pencils and shavings brushes. Now, it's the computer mouse along with the monitor, and other powerful software such as Auto CAD, Tekla Structures, SDS2, Auto Desk Revit, Auto Desk Inventor and every different Auto Desk product. From conception to paper Most often, a great idea is sketched on paper to begin with, by a designer (lets say an architect to his client). The architect or designer will then collaborate together with his team and produce a set of drawings of this idea, (lets take a museum as an example). These drawings of a museum might also include a 3D model (or that is derived from it). Once they are satisfied they send them to the Taiwan Auto Parts Client for approval. If it is accepted, construction begins, and the hiring of a general contractor to search out the trades is often the best course. Rememberthat the workers on the floor do not have the same working conditions you have when drawing it the drawing. It will appear darker and louder, and drawings may be destroyed. Make sure to keep this in mind. Shop Drawings for all Industries Virtually all trades in a building or manufacturing procedure require drawings of some form. If not, there's no method of determining the process of building and what standards it was built to.
